General Information About Our Kennel:

We only raise West Highland White Terriers (Westies). We breed for temperament,
health, quality, and the conformity of the breed. We do not show our dogs, but stay as
close as possible to the breed standard. Our puppies are handled and socialized from
the day they are born until they are ready to be adopted. Our goal is to raise happy,
healthy, playful puppies.

All of our adult dogs and puppies get the best nutrition and veterinary care. We feed our
puppies Eukanuba Small Breed Puppy Food and our adults Iams Mini-Chinks. When
the puppies are ready to leave us (around 9 weeks old) they will have their first shots,
be de-wormed (every 2 weeks), and be vet-checked when they are 6-7 weeks old. The
puppies are vaccinated with Progard KC (Bordetella) to help prevent kennel cough, they
are vaccinated with Neopar (to prevent the parvo virus), we vaccinate with Intervet Brand
Progard 6 for the prevention of Canine distemper, Adenovirus Type 2, Parainfluenza,
Parvo, Coronavirus. The puppies are also vaccinated with GiardiaVax to prevent Giardia.
These vaccinations are administered by us (the breeder).

All of our puppies are born and raised here at our kennel. All of our puppies are sold
directly from our kennel to individual families. We do not sell puppies to brokers,
wholesalers, dealers, or petstores. We keep the puppies until they are 9 weeks old. We
clean and sanitize our kennel on a daily basis.

Breeding Program:

We breed for temperament, health, quality, and the conformity of the breed. When
planning a litter the sire and dam are selected based on the above characteristics. We
do not breed dogs that are related. We breed for one, maybe two litters a month. Our
dogs are not bred every time they have a heat cycle. We consult with our vet regularly.

Our Kennel Facilities:

Our dogs are housed in a climate controlled kennel with a ventilation system. The air
inside the kennel is exchanged with fresh outdoor air six to ten times per day. The dogs
have an indoor area where their food, water, and toys are and an outdoor exercise area.
The outdoor exercise area is under roof to protect the dogs from harsh weather. They
can go in and out as they please through doggy doors. Both the inside and outside
areas are cleaned and sanitized daily.

Visiting Guidelines:

1. We require appointments for visiting our kennel. Email or call if you would like to
schedule an appointment. Puppies/Parents will only be shown with pre-scheduled
appointments.

2. The puppies must be 5 weeks old before they have visitors.

3. When you visit, we will show you the available puppies and their parents.

4. You will NOT be allowed to enter the kennel. The owners (Tim/Bobbi Jo Powell),
Their vets, Pennsylvania Dog Wardens, and AKC Kennel Inspectors are the only
individuals that are permitted inside the kennel. There are people that believe we have
things to hide because we do not let them enter our kennel, that is not true. We care to
much about the health, safety, and well being of our dogs to let strangers and all the
millions of germs on them enter our kennel. We do not want to contaminate our kennel
and/or bring in diseases. If you are concerned about the conditions inside our kennel,
contact us we can give you the phone numbers of our vets and inspectors and you can
ask them.

What Is A Breeder?

"A Breeder is one who thirsts for knowledge and never really knows it all and doesn't
pretend he does...One who wrestles with many decisions...A Breeder is one who
sacrifices personal interests, finances, time, fancy furniture...He gives up dreams of a
long, luxurious vacation...Besides, who would watch/care for the dogs while he was
gone...He goes without sleep in hours spent planning, cleaning, watching anxiously
over the birth process and afterwards, over every little sneeze, wiggle, or cry...He skips
parties because that litter is due or the babies have to be fed...His lap is a marvelous
place where generations of happy, healthy and loved babies have snoozed...And still
do...His hands are strong and firm, but ever so gentle and sensitive to the thrusts of a
puppy's wet nose...His shoulders are stooped and often heaped with abuse from
unkind words of those who don't understand, but wide enough to support the weight of
a thousand "Thank You's" from happy new families...His arms are always able to wield
a mop, support an armful of puppies or lend a helping hand to a newcomer...but can't
hold grudges or hold onto unpleasant ridicule...His ears are wondrous things,
sometimes red(from being talked about) or strangely shaped (from being pressed
against a phone receiver,) yet always fine-tuned to the whimper of a puppy or an
oncoming storm...His eyes may be blurred from research and paperwork, but they are
ever so keen to what a healthy, happy puppy looks and acts like...His brain is
sometimes foggy on faces, but can recall how many were in a litter four years ago that
produced a certain puppy...it's so full of knowledge that sometimes it blows a fuse: it
catalogues thousands of colors, sizes, and perfect temperaments...His heart is
sometimes broken but it beats strongly with hope everlasting...and it is always in the
right place!"
